Your Bathroom Should Work For You — At Every Age

The bathroom is where most home falls happen. A tub with a high step-over, a slippery floor, nothing solid to grab — these aren't just inconveniences. For older homeowners or anyone with limited mobility, they are real daily risks.

The good news: a properly designed bathroom can eliminate most of those risks without looking institutional. The Onyx Collection gives us the products to build a shower that is safe, beautiful, and built to last — and Landmark Bath has been doing this work in the Richmond area since 1987.

Scott visits your home, assesses your specific situation, and designs a solution that fits your bathroom, your needs, and your budget. No guesswork. No overselling. Just honest advice and quality work.

Onyx Collection Accessibility Products

Every product below is part of the Onyx Collection solid surface system — lifetime warranted and designed to look like it belongs, not like medical equipment added as an afterthought.

Zero-Threshold & Low-Profile Bases

The entry point is everything. Onyx offers multiple base heights — including zero-threshold — so there’s little to nothing to step over.

  • Integrated ramp base — smooth entry, ideal for walkers or wheelchairs
  • Low profile — 1⅛″ — near-zero step-over, best for aging in place
  • Mid height — 2¾″ — standard option with non-slip surface
  • ADA-compliant bases available — custom sizes for any footprint
  • Non-slip textured surface standard on every base

Grab Bars — Properly Anchored

A grab bar is only as safe as how it’s installed. Ours are anchored into wall studs or blocking during installation — not surface-mounted into drywall.

  • Pearl & Liberty Series — clear acrylic 1¼″ rod, gloss or matte finish
  • Onyx 2 Grab Rail — polished chrome, triangular shape for superior grip
  • AKW Onyx Grab Rail — 32mm diameter, 45mm wall clearance, for limited dexterity
  • Available straight, angled, or teardrop shaped
  • All styles match your Onyx shower finish and color
📄

Shower Seats — Fold-Down & Fixed

Built in during the installation — not added on later. Seats match your Onyx wall panels in color and finish so they look like part of the original design.

  • Fold-down seats — regular, small, and extended sizes
  • Fixed bench seats — customizable placement and size
  • Corner seat or full-width bench options
  • Matches Onyx wall panels in color and finish
  • Covered under Onyx lifetime warranty

Full Walk-In Shower Conversion — The Most Impactful Upgrade

Most popular accessibility option

Remove the tub entirely and install a purpose-built walk-in shower with every safety feature built in from the start — the single most impactful change you can make for long-term safety and independence at home.

  • Tub removed completely — nothing to step over
  • Low or zero-threshold Onyx base installed
  • Grab bars anchored into wall structure

Every element is coordinated — the same Onyx solid surface throughout, matching color and finish. It looks like it was always designed that way, not modified for safety after the fact.

  • Fold-down or bench seat included if desired
  • Non-slip floor standard — no bath mat needed
  • Pricing depends on scope — free in-home assessment

What Makes Us Different for Accessibility Work

Most bath remodelers treat grab bars as a checkbox. We treat accessibility as a design challenge — and we have the products, the experience, and the personal attention to do it right.

👥

Scott Visits Your Home

Every accessibility project starts with Scott visiting your home in person, understanding exactly how you use the space, and designing a solution for your specific situation — not a generic package.

🛡

Products Built for Safety

The Onyx Collection accessibility line isn't hardware-store grab bars. It's a purpose-built system — anchored correctly, lifetime warranted, and designed to look like it belongs in your bathroom.

📍

Local. Family Owned.

Landmark Homes Inc. has been serving Richmond since 1987. You're not dealing with a franchise call center — Scott picks up the phone, visits your home, and is on-site for the installation.

Installed Correctly

Surface-mounted grab bars not anchored into studs are dangerous — they pull out under weight. Every bar and seat we install is properly anchored into the wall structure. No shortcuts.

Why Accessibility Upgrades Look Better With Onyx

Most grab bars and shower seats look like they came from a medical supply catalog. The Onyx Collection changes that. Every accessibility product — the grab bars, the seats, the bases — comes in the same colors and finishes as the shower walls. It all looks like one intentional design, not safety equipment bolted on after the fact.

  • Grab bars match your shower wall color and finish exactly
  • Shower seats look built-in — because they are
  • Non-porous surface — no mold, no bacteria, easy to clean
  • Lifetime warranty covers every product we install
  • Made in the USA — Belvue, Kansas
  • We bring samples to your home — see and feel before you decide

"Scott and his team did a wonderful job replacing our shower/tub with a walk-in shower for my elderly mom. They were honest and very thorough. Scott communicated throughout the whole process which was a big plus! He also replaced the old floor too. I highly recommend them."

"After several years of wanting a bathroom remodel we decided upon retirement to go for it. We had our old shower/tub removed for a low threshold shower. Scott Matthews and his Landmark Bath crew could not have made it an easier process. The end result is so much more than what we had hoped for."

"They removed old small shower and oversized jetted tub, replacing with large shower. Not only did they do a great job but their professionalism was on point the entire time. Listened to my mom's needs and took the time to make sure everything was working for her."

Accessible Bathroom Upgrades — FAQ

Honest answers to the questions we hear most from Richmond-area homeowners. Don't see yours? Call Scott directly at (804) 805-4600.

What bathroom upgrades help seniors stay safe at home? +
The most impactful changes are: converting a tub to a walk-in shower with a low or zero-threshold base so there is nothing to step over, adding grab bars properly anchored into the wall structure, installing a fold-down shower seat, and using a non-slip shower base. All of these can be done in a single project using the Onyx Collection solid surface system, which looks beautiful and is backed by a lifetime warranty.
What is a zero-threshold or curbless shower? +
A zero-threshold or curbless shower has no curb or raised edge at the entry. You walk straight in from the bathroom floor. The Onyx Collection offers integrated ramp bases and ultra-low profile bases as low as 1⅜ inches — making entry safe and easy for people using walkers, wheelchairs, or anyone who has difficulty stepping over a traditional shower curb or tub ledge.
Are grab bars strong enough to actually support body weight? +
Only if they are anchored correctly into the wall studs or blocking — not just into drywall. Surface-mounted grab bars that are not properly anchored can pull out of the wall under weight, which is dangerous. Landmark Bath installs all grab bars anchored directly into the wall structure during installation, so they are rated to safely support body weight. This is one of the most important reasons to hire a professional rather than add grab bars yourself after the fact.
What is an aging in place bathroom remodel? +
Aging-in-Place means modifying your home so you can live there safely and comfortably as you get older — without needing to move. In the bathroom, this typically means converting a tub to a walk-in shower, lowering the step-over threshold, adding properly anchored grab bars, installing a shower seat, and using non-slip flooring. Landmark Bath does all of these as part of a single project, using the Onyx Collection system.
How much does an accessible bathroom remodel cost in Richmond VA? +
Pricing depends on the scope. A tub-to-shower conversion with accessibility features like grab bars and a low-threshold base depends on the scope of your project. A more comprehensive upgrade including a full walk-in shower system, fold-down seat, and additional safety features will vary based on your bathroom size and the Onyx design you choose. Scott gives you an honest, accurate number at the free in-home assessment — before you commit to anything.
Can you add a shower seat to my existing shower? +
If you are doing a full shower remodel or tub-to-shower conversion, yes — a fold-down or fixed bench seat is built in as part of the project. The seat matches the Onyx wall panels in color and finish, so it looks like it was always part of the design. We discuss seat placement and size options at the in-home assessment based on your specific needs.
How long does an accessibility bathroom upgrade take? +
Most accessibility-focused tub-to-shower conversions take 2 to 3 days. More comprehensive remodels may take longer depending on scope. We give you a firm, accurate timeline before the project starts and we stick to it. Angela Hardiman, one of our Richmond customers, noted that our crew stayed late on day three to make sure her bathroom was fully ready for use by the next morning — because she only had one bathroom.
Is Landmark Bath licensed to do accessibility bathroom work in Virginia? +
Yes. Landmark Homes Inc. and Landmark Bath both hold Class A contractor licenses in Virginia. We are fully insured and have been serving the Richmond area since 1987. Scott Matthews handles every accessibility project personally — he visits your home, assesses your specific needs, and is on-site throughout the installation.
